photoblog image GM Rose?

GM Rose?

I thought to bounce off you Shutterchancers which one was better; Aperture or Lightroom. I use a mac primarily for my photo library and currently use Aperture as my preferred library. I was trying to do a lens vignette on a photo and found that I would have to export to Photoshop to get this done. Being lazy, and knowing that Lightroom would do this in two clicks or less, I thought to ask : which would you recommend to a photoblogger: Apple Aperture, or Adobe Lightroom?

I'd like to know what you think. In the meantime, do tell me what you think of this shot :P Is this rose Genetically Modified?
No PP at all on this. I'm taking Deji's admonition to heart : 'do your cropping in your viewfinder'!

I certainly can't answer your question as I use no photo editing but Picasa for straightening horizons and the occasional crop but i wanted to tell you I love this photo. It is going straight to my likeys.
Abisola Fatokun: Thanks Mary! I'm happy you like it. I actually like it too. I'm still wondering why it's coloured so, though.
Beautiful image Bisola.
Abisola Fatokun: Thanks Bridge.
Nice Shot Lady!
Abisola Fatokun: hey ChaCha... I'm thinking that you're thinking I'm a lady.

Hi Bisola. Love this rose...it could be "genetically modified"...but then I don't know my roses that well.

Re: Aperture and Lightroom: I just downloaded and tried Lightroom. I like what it does, but I'm still learning how to use the app. You're right. You can add a vignette pretty quickly. Have not tried Aperture. (I have a PC). So I guess I can't give you a qualified answer. sad Sorry.

i didnt understand anything you said. the rose made me want to eat it - petals and all. so thats must mean something. not sure what tho.. the colours are very suspicious tho... maybe? ~S.

I don't have a clue either, Abisola, but surely it's a hybrid of some sort! Whatever, it's gorgeous!
Abisola Fatokun: Thanks Ginnie, apparently it's a 'Chicago peace rose'! Thanks for dropping by.
DoF is beautiful. Colour is spot on too.
Abisola Fatokun: Thanks Chris. I guess the auto white balance setting can work sometimes smile
I can`t answer you question, but I cn tell you that I like the photograph. (:o)
Abisola Fatokun: wink Thanks Rosalyn. I thought of you when I was uploading this rose!
Another great capture...
Abisola Fatokun: I'm flattered.
Some of the guys have been talking about lightroom being really good, but I confess I have no idea. The rose has not been modified it just grows like this. I have one, from memory it is a "chicago peace rose". There is a whole army of breeders out there who take years of cross breeding/grafting to come up with new varieties.
Abisola Fatokun: Thanks Aussie... I didn't realise that a rose could have such a complex name! My dad actually breeds roses as well but I never spent time with him in his garden.

I like the idea of cropping the shot in viewfinder. It makes you think about the shot more carefully. For this shot: Again, great color contrast and very nice composition. No idea about the rose though..
Abisola Fatokun: Thanks Richa! I've had to start doing a lot of thinking myself while composing my shots.

Hi Bisola. Also, I do not have a Mac, so cannot give an answer to your quandary. I have used photoscape before for putting in a vignette, but also found I can do it very easily on camera, by screwing on a set of close up filters AND a polarisor. As to the photo, the composition and DOF are great, I would prfer just a little bit more sharpness in the rose itself. Otherwise, super. Kind regards, Neil.
Abisola Fatokun: Thanks for the tip, Neil. I didn't apply the sharpening filter because I was just being lazy and didn't really want to do any PP on the picture. I don't have any filters or polarisers. Yet smile. So I'm quite constrained to working with the available software. Happy to know you like the shot.
Apperture or Lightroom, it totally depends on who you talk to, use Lightroom most of the time but Apperture does exactly the same thing Lightroom does. It's just like the old age debate about Nikon or Canon tongue
Abisola Fatokun: Thanks subs/sin (it gets confusing!!!). I've tried both and I think I prefer Lightroom. It doesn't store the images in a 'package' like Aperture prefers to... thanks for dropping by. I'm liking your cats btw!

You love flowers, dont you?!!! You capture them well. Nice one.
Abisola Fatokun: Thanks Saratu! yes, I love flowers. Because they're beautiful AND also because I don't need their permission to shoot them smile I tried to shoot some traffic wardens as they were writing tickets out this morning and one of them gave me the evil eye :p... so I'm gonna stick to flowers for a bit.
Great colors in this one and i like the background smile
Abisola Fatokun: Thanks Magnus!! Am pleased that you like it.
oooohhhh...u now actually prefer Lightroom :p
Like the colours here.
